Autumn Term Theme: How can we protect our home?

In English this term, we will be focusing on a range of exciting texts and exploring the concept of equality. We will be focusing on writing a range of text types including stories, poems, recounts, biographies and persuasive texts. The books looked at will be:

In Maths, our focus for the Autumn term will be: Place Value, Addition, Subtraction, Length, Perimeter, Multiplication and Division. We will be following the White Rose scheme of work. Click here to access the White Rose Parent Workbooks where you can find resources linked to our lessons within school.

Being confident with our times tables is a really important skill that we are going to be focusing on in Year 4. We will be completing the Multiplication Tables Check during the Summer term (click here to read more information about this from

In Geography, we are looking at our local area and the impact that it can have on our lives. We will be looking at home Dronfield has developed and expanded over time and looking into reasons why this might be. We will do a comparison of Dronfield against the village of Castleton, looking at the different ways that land is used around both areas. We will also be investigating pollution around school and the possible different causes of this. To learn more about Dronfield, you can click here.

 Homework Information

In Year 4, there will be a range of homework activities, most of which will be set on a regular basis but some will be occasional and linked to our termly topic.

Reading - Please read for a minimum of 3x a week at home. Each time you read, please enter the details into your reading diary and ask an adult at home to sign the entry for you. Reading diaries are due in for checking every Tuesday.

Spellings - Every Tuesday you will be given a set of spellings to practise throughout the week at home. We will also complete activities during the week at school on the spelling rule that has been sent home. Every Tuesday you will have a spelling test during English to test you on the spellings you've been working on. You don't need to hand in your spelling sheet but please be prepared for your test!

Maths - Maths homework will be issued on a Tuesday and is due in the following Tuesday. You will be set a piece of work in your Maths Homework Book based on the current topic(s) we are learning in class. I would also like you to please practise your times tables at home on a regular basis.

Remote Learning Information (if your child is isolating)

If your child has to isolate (but is feeling well in themselves) for any period of time, please check our Year 4 Teams for their remote learning. Your child will be set a piece of Maths, English and one other subject each day. Please either 'hand in' the learning on Teams or email me any learning you would like to share with me. It would be great if your child could also read each day and practice their times tables.
