Sports at Gorseybrigg

The Spring term has been an extremely busy time for sport at Gorseybrigg! 


The Year 3 class went to Gladys Buxton to participate in a variety of gymnastic activities. They had a fun morning working alongside children from other schools in activities led by the young leaders at Henry Fanshawe. 

 A group of ten year 5 children have been specially chosen to be the Bronze Ambassadors for Gorseybrigg. These children will promote health and fitness at our school for a whole year. The Bronze Ambassadors participated in an inspirational training day at the English Institute of Sport and are now raring to go!  

 A team of 18 children from years 5 and 6 showed their excellence at Sportshall Athletics, winning the competition and going through to the District final!!  


2 teams of children from year 6 went to the Basketball competition at Henry Fanshawe. Both teams played brilliantly with equal skill, even drawing when they played against each other! Both teams went through to the District Final!! 

Reception children enjoyed a fun session of balance bike training in the school hall. This was led by tutors from Wheelyfunwheels. 

Year 5 mini leaders have been working really hard providing lunchtime activities for younger children. Well done to those leaders who have achieved their bronze and silver awards. 

The year 6 basketball team attended the district final where they played with determination and great sportsmanship. They showed excellent skills and teamwork. Well done

The Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics team went to the District final at Eckington. It was a tense and high quality event in which the children showed excellent skills. We came an incredible 2nd place.

A week later it was the Year 4’s turn to do the Sportshall Athletics competition at Henry Fanshawe. A team of 16 children showed off their skills to come an amazing 1st place!

Well done to Mrs Tingay for all those Sportshall Athletics PE lessons.

The year 3 class took their volcano dance to the Winding Wheel at Chesterfield. This was a showcase of dances learnt in PE lessons. Over 20 schools performed their dances during the whole day to an audience of around 300 parents and children. The year 3 class did themselves proud and had a great afternoon. 

A team of 5 children from Years 4 and 5 spent the afternoon at Eckington Secondary school competing in the sport of BocciaThey performed really well and were a credit to school. Well done!
